Biography of DJ Seph
Joseph Richard Mitchell (born August 13, 1983) is an English voice actor, music producer, DJ, MC, digital artist, designer, photographer, game developer, and YouTuber. Known online as Serial Karnage (or DJ/MC Seph), Mitchell has built a diverse body of work across creative media — blending sound, vision, and storytelling in unique and unexpected ways.
He is recognized for his musical versatility, compelling vocal work, eye for design, and deep passion for games and storytelling. His website acts as an evolving library and archive of his life’s work — housing DJ sets, original music, videos, mods, books, digital art, and his flagship trading card game SK Dynasty, which continues to grow in 2025.
Early Life
Joseph was born and raised in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. He is the son of events planner Lancelot Richard Clarke and homemaker Carol Anne Mitchell. He has one sister, Georgia Mitchell, two half-sisters through his mother (Joy Mitchell, deceased, and Dionne Mitchell), and ten half-siblings through his father.
Raised non-religious, Joseph had limited contact with his father during childhood. He attended Woughton Campus for secondary school but was later expelled and transferred to Stantonbury Campus. He eventually dropped out before finishing his final year. Instead of higher education, he entered the workforce early — working in customer service at places like McDonald's, Claire’s Accessories, LEGO, BT, The Gadget Shop, and Hawkin’s Bizarre.
Career
Mitchell’s creative journey began in the mid-90s when he MC'd at the final Dreamscape event held at The Sanctuary. He began DJing soon after, often combining both live — a unique edge that became his signature. He launched Two Mad Kidz events with longtime friend Iain Ward, with flyers hand-drawn by Ward’s girlfriend Tammy Gordon.
He cut his teeth producing music on MUSIC 2000 (PS1) and Fruity Loops (PC), often remixing acapellas from vinyl with his own beats. Despite having a natural flow and strong local reputation as a rapper, he never fully pursued a career in hip-hop.
He continued to DJ, MC, and rap over the years, featured in sets with Gasmask Formation, and later picked up guitar and joined Violation Permit, a metal band that fused screamo, rap, and heavy guitar riffs. He also hosted solo and co-hosted radio shows on Fresh Mix Radio with Switch & SEVERE.
From 2010 to 2013, Mitchell organized and hosted events including Oxjam, and worked closely with The Poet Tree Alliance on festivals like Properstock. Around this time, he began DJing weddings and photographing events before shifting into sports and freelance photography and design.
In 2017, he ramped up content creation on his YouTube channel Serial Karnage, putting out game reviews, mixes, gameplay videos, and voice acting reels. He has even charted for Clone Hero — a fan-made Guitar Hero clone. He also explored game development using the M.U.G.E.N engine.
Since 2019, Mitchell has produced a comic dub series based on The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born, voicing over 20 characters and handling full audio production. Though he began development on a Predator: Hunters dub, that project is currently on hold.
In 2020, he embraced digital art and opened a print store to sell his work — now hosted on Contrado, featuring original artwork, apparel, and merch.
In 2023 and 2024, Mitchell worked professionally as a QA Tester at Universally Speaking in Wyboston, UK, testing video games for bugs across multiple platforms and genres.
Now in 2025, Mitchell continues to develop his original trading card game SK Dynasty, which combines adult strategy gameplay with collectible character, item, and environment cards.
Personal Life
Mitchell has been open about his early struggles with alcohol, especially in his teenage years where access was easy and peer culture normalized it.
In 2013, his half-sister Joy passed away from cancer at age 34 — a loss that remains close to his heart.
Since 2010, Mitchell has been in a long-term relationship with social worker Lesley Lown.
Outside his creative pursuits, he enjoys motorcycling and camping, often taking inspiration from his time on the road and in nature.
